Converged network technology

LAN and SAN convergence

It is very demanding to implement and maintain two separate LAN and SAN networks in terms of both costs and processes. The main benefit of the unified infrastructure for data communication is primarily that it cuts the costs associated with implementing a SAN network over the Fibre Channel. 

Due to the affordability and falling costs of 10GbE and Multi-Gigabit Ethernet solutions, a converged network infrastructure using Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) technology has become the cornerstone of modern data centres.

The FCoE management is similar to that of FC at the level of guest, storage, and switch, retaining all the operation principles, only with Ethernet used for transmission.

Cisco converged switches

Fibre Channel over Ethernet technology (FCoE) is one of the major components of a Cisco Unified Data Centre that enables multiprotocol networking for UCS servers, Cisco Nexus®, and Cisco MDS platforms.

In our solutions, we primarily use the benefits of the Cisco Unified Fabric portfolio and platform, CISCO Nexus® switches with FCoE support to enable operations in FIP Snooping bridge, NPV, and FCF mode.

Using the scalable Cisco NX-OS operating system, the CISCO Nexus extended product line offers high availability, security, and ultra-low-latency performance.

CISCO Nexus®

The basic feature of the switch is Cisco DCE (Data Centre Ethernet) technology that provides lossless data transmission in the Ethernet network.

Priority Float Control allows you to divide the 10Gb band into eight independent channels and implement and control the data transmission separately, including guaranteed congestion notification. 

DCE provides management of eight queues with the possibility of setting a priority queue for lossless types of data transmissions realized via FCoE, but also via IP protocol - iSCSI or CIFS.
